Unless you are with a tour operator for your entire stay, doing your own driving is a good way to see the sights and experience the different regions in Cyprus. The roads are finely built and all highways and roads are marked. A new comer could very easily adapt to the roads, and there aren’t any by roads and mazes of roads that would complicate your travel. All parts of the Island are easily accessible within a couple of hours drive.

Accommodation

There are hotels ranging from B & B’s to five star catering to all kinds of travelers. Some specialty tourist hotels offer a unique Cypriot experience, in the décor as well as the food served.

Clothing

In the summer time the weather is quite warm and hot. So take lots of sun block and casual clothing. Winter in the Troodos mountains could get quite chilly as it snows, hence warm clothing would be needed for winter time travel.

Food & Drink

There are plenty of shops and restaurants near the tourist attractions as well as the road sides. The restaurants in front of the Finikoudes beach front is a must try. They offer uniquely Cypriot food as well as the usual spaghetti and meat balls. Take a leisurely meal looking at the beautiful blue seafront. Behind the line of restaurants in the Finikoudes beach there are a lots of shops connecting a couple of streets offering many kinds of souvenirs as well as other items. The streets also connect to the local markets.

While in Cyprus don’t forget to have a Clay Oven roasted Lamb. The roasts are amazing, and the meat is melt in your mouth good. Also try a Cyprus Maze- a variety of Cypriot dishes served in small quantities.

Cycling and trekking

There are well connected nature trails in the Troodos mountains, that could be explored by yourself or with a guide. You could either trek or go cycling.

In the winter, Troodos mountains turns in to a ski resort. The shops and restaurants are open in the night time, and there is a beautiful alpine feel in the little towns. The ambience and charm is still experienced in the summer time, in the mountains. Take a nature trail and try the trout fish straight from the trout farm, in the TroodosMountains.

Wine Trails

Omodos village lies in the heart of the wineries of Cyprus and is about 45 kilometers away from the Limassol city. There are old ladies doing their lace works by the road side in the village, and there are a variety of shops and restaurants. Plenty of souvenirs and cushion covers and clothing to buy. Take the measurements of your cushions and pillows if traveling to Omodos village. It might come in handy. A visit to the church and the old wine press in the Omodos village is a must.
